Keller Williams Realty
Keller Williams Realty is a real estate franchise organization in the United States and Canada. With its headquarters based in Austin, Texas, Gary W. Keller and Joe Williams co-founded Keller Williams Realty in 1983. The company began franchising in 1991 and expanded to Canada in 1998, with sales and commission growth topping 700 percent since 1995. Under Keller’s direction, the company has experienced a significant increase in market centers, closed units, closed gross commission income, and agent count. In 2009, Keller Williams market centers generated $80.1 million in combined profit while almost every other major franchise experienced a decrease. Since its inception, Keller Williams has grown from a single office in Austin to the largest real estate company in the United States and Canada with over 80,000 agents worldwide.
In 2010, Keller Williams Realty CEO Mark Willis announced the expansion beyond North America. In early 2012, the company was awarded its first overseas franchise in Vietnam led by KW Vietnam President Paul Mason. In September 2012, franchise opportunities also included Indonesia, led by Tony Eddy, and the Southern Africa region, led by Johan Gouws, Niel Cronje, Tertius Zitzke, and Stefan Swanepoel. This area includes South Africa, Namibia, Swaziland, Lesotho, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mauritius, and Mozambique.
On February 17, 2013 Keller Williams Worldwide President Chris Heller announced that the company would expand into 4 new countries: Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Turkey. Negotiations with potential franchisees in several other countries continue as Keller Williams Realty seeks to add 50,000 associates worldwide over the next 10 years.
Luxury Homes by Keller Williams
In 2007, Keller Williams Realty launched Luxury Homes by Keller Williams, a members-only program that gives eligible associates a designation as experts in serving luxury home buyers and sellers. The training component of the program is provided by The Institute for Luxury Home Marketing.
In 2008, Keller Williams Realty introduced KW Commercial, a division of the company that provides commercial real estate associates with specialized technology, marketing tools, and resources. Two key differences between KW Commercial and the industry’s leading brokerages are commission splits in the agents’ favor, allowing them to retain at least 60 percent more of their commissions based on $300,000 gross income, as well as profit-sharing and retirement programs. Commercial agents also get ownership opportunities similar to those offered to Keller Williams residential agents. KW Commercial is headed by commercial real estate veteran, Buddy Norman, in Austin, Texas and has grown to over 1,000 brokers nationally.
A division of Keller Williams Realty, Inc. based in Austin Texas, KellerINK is a publisher of instructional and inspirational business books with a real estate specialty. The company published the nationally bestselling Millionaire Real Estate series having sold more than a million books worldwide.
KW Cares is a 501(c)(3) public charity created to support Keller Williams Realty associates and their families with hardship as a result of a sudden emergency. Hardship is defined as a difficult circumstance that a person or family cannot handle without outside help. In 2012, KW Cares awarded $2.7 million in grants to associates and their families in need.
RED Day (Renew, Energize and Donate) is an initiative dedicated to celebrating Keller Williams Realty’s year-round commitment to improving their local communities. Each year, on the second Thursday in May, tens of thousands of associates from across the United States and Canada participate in a wide range of projects, devoting their time to renewing and energizing aspects of the neighborhoods in which they serve. RED Day initiatives run the gamut from rebuilding homes, refurbishing local parks, giving to local food shelters, hosting blood drives, beautifying beaches, and much more. Projects are chosen by each individual market center based on a need they have seen within its community. Recognizing her leadership in guiding the culture of our company, RED Day is held in honor of Mo Anderson, Vice Chairman of the Board, Keller Williams Realty.
